About Us

United Way of Portage County is doing what matters in our community.

United Way is in the business of creating tangible, meaningful impact in people’s lives in Portage County. It is not about how many individuals we provide for and serve. It is not about how many partner programs we unite. What matters is: The bottom line results, the lives we help to change and the community we shape.

United Way of Portage County serves children, youth, adults, senior citizens, the disabled and disadvantaged members of our community. Because of United Way programs, children in our county have access to friendly, safe after-school programming. Because of United Way, citizens can obtain free or low-cost preventative and emergency medical care. Because of United Way, senior citizens have a place to gather – somewhere where they can converse with friends while maintaining confidence and self-esteem.

United Way programs are creating positive change for your friends, family and neighbors.

Thank you for helping us do what matters.

United Way of Portage County has been in the life changing business since 1967. United Way’s home is based in Ravenna, Ohio.

Our Mission:

“Caring that strengthens our community, improves our lives and makes your contribution count.”

Our Vision:

“To serve the Portage County community by being an exemplary and innovative leader in mobilizing regional assets to build the community’s capacity to measurably impact current and emerging needs.”

Why is there a United Way of Portage County?

  • To help people who really need help

  • To identify needs in the community and to target various funding methods to help meet those needs

  • To unite leaders and volunteers from all walks of life in order to more effectively charge the fight for positive change in Portage County

  • To increase effective use of contributed dollars through a cost-efficient annual United Way campaign

  • To provide free-of-charge information and referral services to all Portage County residents. United Way’s 211 Portage information and referral service, connects families and individuals in Portage County with community resources and volunteer opportunities

A volunteer at the County Clothing Center sorts through pieces of clothing before they are placed on hangars and moved to the store floor. The gently worn clothing is available free of charge to low-income families/individuals in need.
